The Esplanados are a vibrant twelve piece a cappella group, formed in Brisbane in early 2004.  All members had sung and performed throughout  Australia and beyond prior to coming together. Infusing fun with funk and goosebump-giving harmonies, The Esplanados captivate with pop arrangements, soul-stirring gospel, African and World music delights and some breathtaking originals. From Bacharach to  Botswana and all points in between...the Esplanados will take you there!

Who's Who?

Kath Lloyd-Besson - song writing & arranging; singing & percussion; performing & recording; teaching children & adults >>Kath has been involved in a multitude of musical collaborations over the last 15 years, in Australia and the UK, from a cappella groups (large & small) to fronting the jazz-african-fusion dance-music band "Mambo Jambo".

Christine Grodd - singing, performing and recording with various choirs and vocal ensembles for the past 10 years, including Amazwi, Qwired, Martenitsa, Madding Circus and The OK Chorale. Currently sings in three choirs, including A Love Supreme.

Jim Chapman – composer, guitarist and tenor. Twenty years performing including 6 years in South Africa. He leads an African fusion group “Kabombo Kombo” and teaches World music. Addicted to polyrhythm.

Beverly Sander - Bev has been a gregarious and active songstress in the a cappella scene for over ten years, resonating with the hot-cool syncopation of gospel, jazz, African and the glorious fusion of world music.  

Liz Pickering - Liz studied the art of Opera singing for several years, before hitting her stride with  Brisbane’s renowned 60’s-style girl-groups, The Mint Patties and The Super Supremes. She has been a member of legendary acappella outfit, The Flannelettes since 1996.

Steve Dillon - Steve has had a thirty-year career as a professional singer and songwriter traversing the worlds of lieder, opera, music theatre, jazz, punk and electropop as a touring and studio musician. He has a doctorate in music and education and generates the low bass frequencies for the Esplanados.

Lucy Buchanan – singing, performing and teaching violin. She has previously sung with the Queensland Youth Choir and is currently studying to be a music teacher. She also wants to pursue her dream of being a diva in the limelight!

Don Stewart - Don was offered a choral scholarship to sing in the choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, when he was 8. He eventually became Head Chorister when his choir master, Dudley Moore, was building a reputation for jazz and commedy. In Australia, Don has been President of the Tudor Choristers in Melbourne and has formerly sung with the Brisbane Chorale. Currently he is with the Queensland Choir and the Queensland Chamber Choir.

Hamish Sewell - has sung in both the Canto Coro and The River City Clippers Barber Shop choirs, not to mention having delved into the world of sound through work with the ABC.
